Welcome to New Era: Yashahime Princess Half-Demon

Most OG anime fans will remember a spectacular title called Inuyasha. It forms a core part of their childhood and the mere mention of it can make the fans nostalgic.

Sunrise Studios decided to work on that nostalgia and bring something for the Inuyasha fans that will cause quite a storm in the community. Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon was produced that acts as a sequel to the main story of Inuyasha.

Summary of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

As the title suggests, Yashahime is a story about two half-demons. These half-demons are twins, and they just so happen to meet their cousin Moroha, a quarter-demon. The half-demons’ names are Towa and Setsuna. They are the daughters of Sesshomaru, a demon introduced in Inuyasha, but unknown to the girls. As little girls they spend their everyday lives in Feudal Japan. But the good times comes to an end when and a forest fire leads the two siblings to get separated.

Not only that, but Towa finds herself transported to modern Japan through a portal and unable to return to her sister Setsuna. A man named Souta Higurashi comes across Towa and starts to take care of her as his own offspring.

Towa spends ten lovely years in modern Japan and her time as a child in the feudal era seems forgotten. But then, her sister Setsuna arrives through the portal, and she’s brought company. What should be a happy reunion is cut short. Setsuna and Moroha have come through the portal with an enemy they need to defeat, and Setsuna has no recollection of her sister Towa. Once the girls defeat the enemy in the present, they return to Feudal Japan for the main missions – defeat the Four Pillars and get Setsuna’s memories back.

Creation

The plot of Yashahime has been created solely to serve as a sequel to Inuyasha. The news surprised the global fanbase. The anime first aired in 2020 and the season ended in 2021. The success of the first season saw the production house renewing it for yet another one.

The best thing about Yashahime Princess Half-Demon is the fact that the core of its fanbase is now in their 20s. (Then, you have a fan, like me, that is in her 30s). It’s not like newer fans won’t be able to enjoy the show, but the vibe is completely different if you are already familiar with Inuyasha.

Artwork

After the anime series was aired, the manga for the same story began to be published weekly on Shonen Sunday, starting in 2021. A compilation in Volume 1 is also set to be released after some months. As usual, the license for the American publication has been taken up by Viz Media that can boost the sales for the franchise.

What’s Next for Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon?

Other than grievances from a couple of fans, the majority are pleased with the way the anime studio has handled the storyline. There are a couple of episodes left to air for season 2 of the series, and there may be a season 3.
